Marlborough Town were singing in the rain as they gained their first win of the season, beating Corsham Town Reserves 3-2.

A jubilant Rod Simpson, manager of the Marlborough side, said: "It was almost as good as training a winner. The victory will be a great boost for the young side. It took us off the bottom of the table and I am very pleased for the lads."

The former racehorse trainer added: "We could still do with a few firms to fill the advertising boards around the ground and I'm still trying to get some of my racing connections to donate some cash towards a set of floodlights."

Marlborough got off to a poor start conceding an early goal scored by Frankie Rogers. The visitors then had a great chance to go further ahead when they were awarded a penalty but Town keeper Chris Patterson made a good save.

The home side drew level shortly after when they were also awarded a penalty and Steve Dean made no mistake from the spot.

After the break a good individual strike from Robin Simpson put the home side in front but back came Corsham to equalise again through Rogers. Richard Jackson then became the Town's hero, scoring the winner in the closing stages for a deserved victory.

Shrewton United gained a 4-0 win over an improved Pewsey Vale Reserve side. After missing a couple of early chances Shrewton's Micky Ball was brought down in the box and Jessie Walters gave United an interval lead from the spot.

Anton Brownless added a second soon after the restart, the visitors keeper could only parry a good header from Stuart Mulford and Brownless was on hand to bundle the ball over the line.

Pewsey then received a setback when their keeper was sent off for handling outside the area and from then on they were facing an uphill task, Brownless and Dean Foot adding further goals for United.

Stratton Crosslink moved up to third place in the table with a 4-1 away victory over Westbury United Reserves. Gareth Davies gave the Swindon side an interval lead, Rob Broadbank heading in a Rick Casey corner for a second.

Davies added a third and a superb solo effort by Rick Casey a fourth. Sean Meer replied for Westbury in the closing stages.

Just one game was played in the Intermediate section, Mitel beating visitors Down Ampney 7-1. Taking the honours for Mitel was Sean Freeman who scored five of his side's seven goals, Steve Webb and Mark Connolly netting one apiece.

In Junior Division One leaders Wroughton Reserves kept up their impressive run with a 6-0 away win over Burmah Castrol Reserves. Ian Pickering and Steve Westall gave the visitors a two goal lead, Glenn Armstrong missing a chance to add a third when he failed to score from the penalty spot just before the break.

Armstrong made amends early in the second half for the miss by adding a third and fourth, Paul Bowden scored a fifth and Armstrong completed his hat-trick in the closing stages to bring his goal tally to 23 for the season.

Goals from Mark Bennett, Wayne Long and Tas Tsokos gave Aldbourne Reserves a 3-0 win over Ferndale Rodbourne.

Blunsdon United Reserves and Marshfield took part in an eight goal thriller, victory going to Marshfield 5-3, Russell Brookman, Gary Pearce, Andrew Hampton, Danny Edwards and Richard Lock scoring for the winners and Wayne Watts grabbing a hat-trick for Blunsdon.

West Swindon completed a League and Cup double over Minety beating the visitors 3-2 in the first round of the Fountain Trophies Junior Cup.

Minety opened the scoring after a couple of minutes through Mark Taylor. Dave Lloyd missed a peanlty, and West Swindon took advantage of the let-off to equalise through Derek Northwood who ran through from the half way line to score a fine individual goal.

Ten minutes into the second half Kenny Campbell added a second for West Swindon with Northwood scoring a third. Minety then pulled a goal back through Robert Vought, had a player sent off and put the Swindon defence under pressure for the last quarter of the game.
