SWINDON Town Ladies cruised into the second round of the AXA Women's FA Cup with this victory over the Dorset County League side.
The Town kicked off with advantage of the strong wind blowing the length of the pitch, and the Wimborne goal was soon under attack. Katy Lemon took a quick throw in to Tracy Peacock that caught out the Wimborne defence but her shot hit the side netting.
The Town again came close to scoring after Holly Ashman had found a way through the tight Wimborne defence found Leanne Taylor whose shot was cleared after hitting the cross bar and the post.
The Town eventually took the lead in the 17th minute when a Clare Wheeler cross was knocked past the helpless keeper by a defender.
In the 27th minute the Town got a second, Netti Wyness played the ball forward to Kim Reeves who in turn played it back to Katy Lemon to drive into the far corner of the net. Holly Ashman opened up the Wimborne defence to set up Netti Wyness but again keeper Stephanie Herbert saved well.
Tracy Peacock got a third for the Town in the 39th minute when she latched into a clearance to shoot high into the net. Two minutes later the Town scored again. Georgia Alcock slipped a neat pass forward for Leanne Taylor to run clear and score.
It was Wimborne's turn to have wind advantage after the break and Eve York tried a long shot that was just wide of the post. Tracy White worked her way through the Town's defence but her final shot flew past the upright.
The Town began to come to terms with the conditions and again took complete control. Georgia Alcock and Kim Reeves had control of the mid field that allowed wide players Holly Ashman and Katy Lemon to get forward. Katy Lemon made a strong run down the Town left before crossing to Holly Ashman to shoot low into the net. In the 65th minute the Town got another when Kim Reeves played Lucy Bailey into a good position from which the Town youngster made no mistake.
In the 71st minute the Town scored again when Hayley Sprules found space on the Town right and her high shot deceived the keeper to find the net. As the game progressed play was confined to the Wimborne half and keeper Stephanie Herbert saved well from Georgia Alcock and Netti Wyness.
In the 78th minute Fiona Baldwin cut in from the Town left before crossing to Leanne Taylor who scored from close range. With five minutes remaining again if was Fiona Baldwin who did the damage to create the opening for Leanne Taylor to complete her hat-trick.
Despite the score line the young Wimborne team battled to end in terrible weather conditions but it is the Town who face Southampton in round two next Sunday.
