Swindon's all-conquering rugby team face their toughest test for years this weekend but first they must beat the weather.

The free-scoring team are due to face South West 1 promotion favourites Cinderford tomorrow, in the third round of the Intermediate Cup.

But weeks of rain have taken their toll on the Greenbridge pitch, which has been under water for most of this week.

Although the surface water has now gone, the ground is extremely heavy underfoot and the club now faces an uphill struggle to get it ready for the big match.

The players trained on the pitch last night but officials are taking a close look at the situation today and will keep an eye on the weather forecast.

The visitors from the Forest of Dean side are currently unbeaten in their league, two leagues above Swindon, and favourites to get promoted to the National Leagues at the end of this season. Swindon are under no illusions and realise this will be a hard game, but it is a cup match and, as the saying goes, anything can happen in a cup tie, especially in front of what is expected to be a large crowd.

Cinderford had a bye in the first round and beat Coney Hill 13-3 in the second round, while Swindon beat Oxford 40-27 in the first round and then saw off Olney in the second round, winning 27-11.

Swindon were planning to field a 20-man squad, an indication of the club's strength in depth, bearing in mind that they are also fielding other sides.

There is a slight change to the starting line-up as Swindon continue to utilise the squad system to its full.

Despite the conditions, the club is hoping to see a great display of rugby against some quality opposition down at Greenbridge Road if it goes ahead.
