EGGS, fireworks and paintballs were thrown when up to 70 youths gathered in the Pewsham area on Tuesday October 31 to take part in Hallowe'en stunts.
Police sent two patrol cars to the scene at around 6.30pm and officers continued to monitor the situation until midnight.
There were also problems in Monkton Park where residents of Sadlers Mead reported eggs being thrown at houses at 6.30pm. No arrests were made.
PC Adrian Burt of Chippenham police said: "I don't think it is the young ones who are a problem, more the teenagers who don't appear to be dressed up with the intention of going trick-or-treating.
"Some of them even threw something at a police car when it turned up but I'm not sure what the substance was.
"When we first received reports at 6.30pm there were eight to twelve youngsters which quickly grew to 20, 60 and then 70.
"The youths were dispersed but we recieved a lot of calls up until midnight."
