THE new club suits at Swindon have already been the source of great amusement in this column. But one further story made me giggle this week. A certain player was asked for his suit size and he had to go and phone his mum to find out. Nobody at the club would reveal the identity of the player, but I understand he has made a number of appearances as sub this season and is very Young (hint, hint).
ANDY KING is always one man you can expect to do the unexpected, so the players found out on Monday. The reserves had a game in Peterborough in the afternoon and the squad was being taken by Phil Cannon. King was not expected to attend the game but decided to nip along and sneak into the crowd to see if anyone was slacking. His thunder was somewhat stolen however as he saw the second string score two first half goals and command the match.
THE new boss was quickly into his stride and almost pulled off a great coup when he contacted former boss Peter Reid. King was the former European scout under Reid at Sunderland and the duo are still good friends. Unfortunately King's bid to take striker Danny Dichio on loan was foiled by his old chum who wants to keep the ex-QPR man as cover for Nial Quinn. King also turned down a move for Pompey's Steve Lovell.
SHOULD results start to pick up then I would expect Andy King to be tested thoroughly for banned substances. After all the programme does state that his kit is sponsored by the firm DrugTest. Colin Todd's sponsors were Bloor Homes. Well he is certainly on the move.
TERRY BRADY went up to Ian Woan after the Wycombe draw and asked if it would be a waste of time buying the former Nottingham Forest player a new club suit. Woan told him to go and get the suit, he was going nowhere.
WHEN Mr Brady told me he was looking for a new striker I felt I just had to mention the name Jan Aage Fjortoft to him. Within minutes I had handed over the Norwegian's phone number and the chase was on. Mr Brady called caretaker boss Andy King and within 10 minutes a call had been put to Jan the man. It was just unfortunate that the Town legend was unavailable.
