RACHEL Adams was left in fear after a stranger followed her home from Wootton Bassett to Calne and tried to approach her.

Mrs Adams, 25, of Lansdowne Park, was on her way home from a business trip in London when she stopped to get petrol at the Shell garage in Wootton Bassett.

As she was leaving the garage a man flashed his headlights, signalling he was letting her go out first.

"It wasn't until I got to the Calne bypass I realised it was the same car that was behind me," she said.

Mrs Adams deliberately turned some corners without signalling but the car continued to follow her closely.

"I thought I was just being paranoid but after that I realised he was following me I rang my husband," she said.

Her husband Matthew, 27, waited in the shadow of his doorway and watched the stranger pull up behind his wife's car and approach her, before he walked out to where the man could see him.

"As I got out of the car he got out and started walking towards me," Mrs Adams said.

"It was not until he saw Matthew that he scarpered."

Mr Adams said: "He tried to tell her her lights weren't working, but they were. This was not normal behaviour and Rachel was left shaken by it."

Mrs Adams says she is now uncomfortable being at home alone because the man knows where she lives.

"It was a very scary experience and I hope the police will catch him and put my mind at rest," she said.

The man was in his early 20s with short, dark hair. He was driving a white K-reg hatchback, possibly a Fiat Panda.
