Early fears that the fixture programme from the Shoestrings-sponsored Chippenham Sunday League would be washed out failed to materialize. Only six of the 23 planned games were called off.
On the downside, five of the league's 14 clubs involved in the Wiltshire Sunday Cup lost their matches to waterlogged pitches. They will try to play them again this Sunday causing matches from the First Round of the Eric Hughes Knock Out cup to be rearranged.
Premier Division
In the Premier Division, Box (Sunday) remain as the only team in the league with a 100 per cent record as they moved to the top of the table after a crushing 9-0 victory over bottom club Avon News. Leading 2-0 at the break Box took full advantage of a weakened Avon News side to run out convincing winners,.
Westbury Rangers A's 3-0 victory over Neston 81 moved them into second position behind Box on goal difference, Mark Pearce, Alex Lutskes and Pete Ayrton shared Rangers' goals.
Malmesbury Town returned to winning ways with a 5-1 win against Melksham Motor Spares. Gavin Thompson netted his first ever Sunday League hat trick, Anthony Vizard bagged a double to complete the scorijng and Simeon Mills replied.
Royal Oak's Mickey Godsell suffered a broken leg five minutes into his side's match with third place Winsley, but despite the set back the Oak took the lead through Tim Jeffries. Winsley then hit back through Paul Ranger, Dean Ranger and Mike Little to seal Winsley's 3-1 win.
Division One
One match that was never in doubt because of the weather was the clash between North Star A and the George Lacock, played at Priestly Grove Calne. Over the past 13 years the youth centre has only ever had to call two games off because of the weather, and the pitch was in perfect condition for the match between two of the division's fancied sides.
It failed to live up to the excitement of their previous encounter when the sides drew 5-5, and the honours were shared in a 2-2 draw. Steve King crashed home a superbly hit free kick from 25 yards to give Lacock the lead and Richard Nash headed home to double the lead. North Star reduced the deficit through Ronnie Kallmeier and Saunders.
Leaders Pilot moved seven points clear at the top as they beat their nearest rivals All Cannings 5-4. Mark James, Steve Robbins, Darren Morris, Neil Wells and Alex Morgan all netted for the Pilot, Nigel Hiscocks , with two, Jeff Potter and Charlie Collier replied.
Maud Heath Sports turned in a fine all round team performance to earn a 7-1 win over Hullavington, Matthew Waite led the scoring with 3, Dave Beal 2, Daylan Gleed and Chris Eades completed the fine win, Paul Frost replied.
Division Two
Trowbridge Harriers have opened up a 3 point lead at the top after a 1-0 win over West Lavington, Paul Edwards scoring their winner on the hour.
Trowbridge Town Colts defeated old rivals North Bradley 4-1. Nick Butler opened the scoring for the Colts and added another to give them a 2-0 advantage before Pete Stephenson pulled one back for Bradley, Chris Sadd then bagged a brace in the final 10 minutes to earn the Colts their win.
Westbridge United returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over bitter rivals Navy Tavern United. Nigel Watson finished off an excellent move in the 35th minute and Paul Daly secured both points with a second half goal.
West End Wanderers battled to earn a 3-2 win over Sutton Benger. Mantle put the Wanderers in front before Ian Dawkins levelled when he lobbed the keeper from 35 yards, Mantle struck again to restore the Wanderers' lead before Ian Pering added their third, James Smith netted Benger's second five minutes from time to set up a tense finish.
Division Three
In Division Three Christian Malford suffered only their second league defeat going down 4-2 to Rowde 4-2 earlier in the season. Malford's defeat allowed Old Lane United to reclaim top spot after they beat defeated St Judes 7-0.
Chippenham Black Horse are slowly creeping up the table, goals from Tim Hughes, Richard Thorne, Tony Kerwick, Terry French and Ross Wilton helped them to a 5-0 win over Malmesbury Victoria. Biddestone Social Club's unpredictable season continues, with a 7-1 win against AFC Unicorn earning them only their third win of the season.
Division Four
In Division Four Classic FC and Corsham Park Rangers' match was the only one to be played and the teams contested a fiercely fought 2-2 draw,
The matches between Black Horse Trowbridge and Westbury Rangers B, Blue Circle Saints and Old Road Tavern, Sir Audley Arms and Peter Black were all casualties of the weather.
Colerne B postponed their match with Southwick Sports and Social Club as a mark of respect to their player Gary Bunting who was killed last week while serving in Germany with the Army, Gary had been playing for Colerne for 18 months and netted 6 times last season and has played in their last 6 matches this term, a valued member of the side Gary will be sadly missed by his team mates.
Sunday Cup
Before the matches kicked off in the Wiltshire Sunday Cup First Round the league were guaranteed at least one team in the draw for the 2nd round. The question was would it be Farmhouse FC or Trowbridge Town Supporters Club? The result went as forecast with the Farmhouse romping to an 8-0 victory.
Fireworks night saw the day begin with a bang for five other clubs. Bradstone Rovers beat Swindon side Southside 2-1 win.
First division Bromham eased to a 4-0 victory over Old Nick from Swindon's Fourth Division. Colerne FC beat Raychem (Sunday) 4-3, while Miller Sports defeated Swindon City 3-0 to set up a fourth round tie with fellow Chippenham League side Bradstone Rovers.
Packhorse followed up their win in the preliminary round with a 3-2 victory over North Swindon WMC. The Wheatsheaf LS destroyed Atworth United 17-0 and Semington Rovers suffered a 1-0 defeat against Cursor Graphics.
