Poetry filled the air as pupils and staff celebrated the official opening of Catherine Wayte Primary School.
Kit Wright was invited to add a poetic twist to the festivities.
He also helped plant a tree to mark the occasion.
Headteacher Gaye Ching said: "This was very much a day for the children. It has been really enjoyable and we were glad that Kit was able to join us."
The school, which is based in Elstree Way, Abbey Meads, opened its doors to pupils in September.
Swindon Council spent £2 million on the building, which contains eight large classrooms, a kitchen activity area, computer suite, a large hall and several shared areas.
Outside there is a huge playground and playing field, a pond and a landscaped central courtyard.
