MP Michael Wills will host a public meeting in Cricklade addressing the town's traffic and policing concerns.

It follows a June meeting in which residents expressed concern over environmental damage being caused by increasing lorry traffic and the effectiveness of the council's plans.

Friday's meeting will follow-up these concerns and aims to ensure there is adequate policing in the town.

Mr Wills said he hopes the meeting to be as well-attended as the first.

"Since the public meeting in June, I have continued to press Wiltshire County Council at every opportunity," he said.

He added that a recent letter from the director of environmental services stated there would be "significant progress" to report at the meeting.

Mr Wills said: "In addition to lobbying the council I have also written directly to all of the major companies whose lorries use Cricklade as a through road."

In a leaflet which has been mailed to nearly every house in Cricklade this week, Mr Wills promised residents: "I will continue to campaign with you to reduce lorry traffic in Cricklade."

At Mr Wills' request, senior police officers will attend the meeting to answer questions from the public.

"The public meeting is an opportunity to put your questions and concerns directly to senior officers," he said.

The meeting, entitled Enhan-cing the Cricklade Environment, will take place on Friday at the United Reformed Church starting at 8pm.
