Wootton Bassett Seconds 61 Colerne 1st 12
Bassett's in form second string were far too good for a poor Colerne outfit who were thrashed in a nine try scoring romp. Bassett's skipper Dave Floyd and winger Craig Smith both claimed a brace of tries with the other scores coming from centres Darren Townsend and Angus Wilson, kiwi scrum half Rob May, fly half Johnny Baxter, flanker Stuart King and conversions from Floyd, Damien Aldridge (two) and Baxter (five).
Aldbourne 1st 0 Wootton Bassett Thirds 31
With Bassett's ground unplayable, a last minute switch to Aldbourne's home ground allowed the game to go ahead. The more experienced Bassett side soon showed their class with three tries being scored in the first half.
The first try came from man of the match John Spillane who ran in from a backs' move to score from the 22. Playing manager John Wall then scored after a rolling maul and then youngster Jack Ricketts added a third when he finished off a well worked move which involved nearly all 15 Bassett players.
Fly half Bob Walbyoff added two conversions to see Bassett go in at the interval with a 19-0 lead.
The second half saw Aldbourne put up some plucky resistance but Bassett gradually wore them down.
John Spillane added his second try of the afternoon when he burst through on the 10 yard line and rode two or three tackles and scored. The final try was scored by replacement Taz Francis who peeled of the back of a ruck and powered over to score in the corner. Walbyoff rounded off the scoring with his third conversion.
There was no 1st XV game. Next Saturday Bassett are at home to Devizes in a Southern Counties South derby clash
