THERE was a very significant omission from the Gazette's November 2 report of the meeting of Devizes town centre working party, chaired by Coun Pat Rugg, at which the future of the trees in the Market Place was again discussed.
The omission was that all the county, Kennet and parish councillors present agreed unanimously with the Kennet District Council officers' report on the condition of the trees and the need to replace them at a sensible time.
The assessment commissioned by the objectors was limited to ground level inspection only with no climbing inspection, whereas Kennet officers had the benefit of the observations of the tree surgeons who carry out the annual pollarding that the crowns are unfortunately in a very poor condition.
