Thornbury Under 15s 5 Chippenham Under 15s 28
CHIPPENHAM had to battle hard to overcome Thornbury in the match to would decide who would proceed to the final of the Bristol Combination Cup.
With both teams fired up and raring to go, Chippenham exploded into play and piled on the early pressure. This paid dividends when Nick Lumley ran outside Thornbury's tough defence to score a memorable first try. Mark Cullen kicked the first of his four conversions.
Ten minutes later, after the Chippenham team heaped more pressure in Thornbury's 22, the second try of the match was scored by Daniel Shuker. However, Thornbury were not put off and pushed Chippenham hard in the last period of the first half.
The second half mirrored the first half with some scrappy play and at times ill discipline from the home side. Craig Harcombe ran in Chippenham's third try blasting past Thornbury's best defence.
A sustained and fierce onslaught by the Thornbury pack was rewarded with a well-deserved try from Gaz Lewis. Unfortunately they could not capitalise maximum points, as it was not converted. Thornbury thenthrew all they had at Chippenham only to find that Chippenham soaked it up and turned on the style, allowing Jamie Reynolds to score a try.
The final whistle blew putting The Wiltshire and Dorset under 15 champions through to the Bristol Combination Cup Final.
