Calne 10, Cricklade 16: Cricklade took the game to their opponents and proved worthy winners.

The first few minutes saw several end-to-end movements with both sides establishing promising positions.

Cricklade were the first to convert the high pace into points when some neat interplay between the centres Richard Denning and Simon Howse saw the Cricklade team move well into Calne territory.

Howse managed to slip a pass out of a tackle to Danny Lloyd, the Cricklade full back, who had made a storming run from the back and went over.

The score did not cause the pace to slow, and Calne soon struck back. A rapid interchange of passes allowed the Calne fly-half to evade several Cricklade tacklers and score under the posts, with the conversion giving them a two-point lead.

However, Calne killed the ball in front of their own posts and allowed Lloyd's penalty goal to nudge Cricklade ahead and they managed to turn this into a six-point lead.

Howse and Denning again exchanged a slick set of passes before Cricklade lock John Bucksey latched on to a neat pass to gallop thirty metres to score.

What remained of the second half saw Cricklade establish a period of dominance, with Andrew Waddell inspiring their pack to secure most of the possession as well as territory.

Such a highly paced first half was bound to take its toll and so it proved. The second half was something of a different game being somewhat slower and more mistake-ridden.

Early in the half, Cricklade did manage to extend their lead thanks to a Matt Henshaw penalty, but Calne responded quickly with a penalty of their own.
