TWO primary schools in Warminster were celebrating this week after being awarded the quality mark for increasing standards in literacy and numeracy.
Crockerton and Heytesbury Primary Schools were both visited by Wiltshire County Council chief education officer Bob Wolfson, for special ceremonies on Tuesday.
Awarded by the Basic Skills Agency, the quality mark is an award given to any primary, secondary or special school that has a framework to raise standards in the key skills.
Headteacher of Crockerton Primary School Val Culff said staff at the school had put in months of work to achieve the award.
She said: "It has taken us just over a year to win the award and it was extremely hard work for everybody.
"It was something we really wanted to do. It is an award well worth having."
Crockerton and Heytesbury Primary Schools were two of the first eight schools in Wiltshire to win the award.
Mrs Culff added: "To have two in the area is amazing, especially being village schools.
"I think something like this is much more meaningful than league tables because schools can achieve the quality mark no matter where they are or what catchment area they cover."
