I FOR one did not agree with your editorial knocking the Army for spending so much money on a new road (Wiltshire Times, October 20).
The Southern Range Road will benefit other road users by taking military vehicles off civilian roads and lead to less environmental damage to Salisbury Plain, which is an environmentally sensitive area.
I drive from Warminster to Andover every day of the week and would like to say thank you to the Army for spending this money on a road which has removed a large number of slow moving, dirty, military vehicles from the highways between Knook and Shrewton. If it prevents traffic accidents and deaths over the next 20 years it will be money well spent.
I'm sure the road will lead to greater safety as I have seen numerous death-defying stunts in the past when apparently myopic drivers of powerful cars have overtaken in the most inappropriate places to scream past the slow moving Army vehicles.
