We were dismayed to read Mrs Daniels's suggestion to dump Bradford on Avon's frustration on Staverton, Hilperton Marsh and Hilperton, by transferring their traffic to the B3105.

Your photograph shows a straight part of the road at Frankleigh but Mrs Daniels fails to mention the route to Trowbridge also includes the narrow bridge on a bend over the river by the Nestle factory, with its triple-wait traffic lights, and the humpback bridges over the railway and the canal. Additionally, the road by the canal bridge is particularly difficult to cross and the causeway is regularly flooded. Surely the B3105 is properly designated.

This road is already heavily used by commercial and private traffic, which has increased substantially recently, possibly due to the completion of Paxcroft Mead.

The situation will deteriorate further if plans for additional building in the Staverton Triangle go ahead.

This brings us on to the Hilperton Gap road proposal, with the possibility of housing along its route. This proposal is supported by Hilperton residents because it would greatly reduce their through traffic and opposed by the Gap people as an intrusion.

However nobody, except apparently the district council for funding reasons, wants the houses. What happens to traffic attracted to the proposed freer-flowing route beyond the marina roundabout? The only route is along Hammond Way and the B3105.

What is needed is the reinstatement of the still unbuilt Staverton bypass, from the marina roundabout to the B3107.
