PLANS for a £24,000 BMX track in Trowbridge have been delayed by red tape.
The scheme to build a track on Studley Green recreation ground sparked protests from people in Tower Close which just yards away from the site.
Now Trowbridge Town Council, which is providing the site, says the track will not go ahead until at least next spring because it is still waiting to go before West Wiltshire district planners for a decision.
Sports and leisure officer Steve Nash said: "We have been told it will go before the central area committee at the end of the month. We have had to make changes, and that seems to have held things up.
"We won't be able to do any work over the winter so it will probably be around February before we can lay the surface. The aim is to have it open in March or April, we are well behind schedule."
The scheme is being backed by town businessman Adrian Ingham, who is putting up £500.
The proposal has sparked fierce opposition in Tower Close, The Tynings, Farleigh Avenue and Azalea Drive. Residents say the track will be in the wrong place, and would become a place for yobs to congregate.
A district council spokesman said the plans had been delayed because alterations had been needed.
The plans are now due to go before the central area committee on November 23.
