Does the editor of the Wiltshire Times have something against the inhabitants of Hilperton ?

Last week's letters page contained not one, but two letters which sought to perpetuate the awful traffic situation that we currently have to endure.

The first, calling for the scrapping of a planned bypass through the Gap, is by now almost a regular occurrence in your letters section.

While I understand the views of those who do not wish their view over virgin fields to be destroyed, they should understand that those of us who have to live with 30-40 tonne lorries thundering past our houses at all hours find the current situation intolerable.

I do not believe you will find a majority against the Gap road in Hilperton. However, the implications of the letter from your Bradford On Avon reader, who wants all traffic diverted round Bradford via the B3105, are so appalling as to be almost comical.

This road passes directly through, yes you've guessed it, Staverton and Hilperton.

It is already the bypass of Bradford for large lorries and Hilperton could not cope with the rest of the traffic anymore then Bradford can.

l I can assure you there is no policy against the good people of Hilperton or a policy in support or against a bypass. The letters pages reflect readers' opinions on all subjects. We can only publish what is sent to us. Editor
