TROWBRIDGE gained a convincing and much-needed victory against Old Sulians in preparation of the visit of league leaders Frome tomorrow.

Trowbridge's committed play was rewarded with tries from Wayne Day (2), Mark Blake (2) and winger Richard Paynton. A conversion was added by fullback David Wells and Sean Sullivan.

RECENT bad weather saw Trowbridge surrender home advantage and travel to Old Sulians.

But this did not deter the Trowbridge 2nds recording a convincing win and Jason Reed crossed the line three times to score his second hat-trick in three weeks. Jamie Little scored two tries and his father Doug also scored a try. Scrum half Tom Hanham produced another man-of-the-match performance for the second week running, and the Trowbridge backs had a field day, with tries from Matthew Larard, Jason Harvey, Alex Huscroft, Lee McClurg, and Craig Stritch. Conversions by Phil Stockley (3) and Graeme Morrision (2).

TROWBRIDGE U15s suffered a surprise defeat by Swindon on Sunday.

Trowbridge's recent good form deserted them for three quarters of the game before they rallied and almost came out on top.

A strong run by centre Craig Gum allowed him to power over for a try and in the dying seconds,

The home side played hosts to one of Bristol's top junior sides who quickly showed why they are a force in the Western Counties league.

The visitors tore into their opponents and ran in three first-half tries. A Paul Simmons penalty was the home side's only score to leave it 3-15 at half time.

The visiting forwards ran in three second-half tries, wing forward Simon Scott (2), and prop Luke Summerfield the scorers. Cooper Avon responded with the final try of the game when centre Mark Simmons charged down a kick on the half way line and sprinted unopposed to touch down under the posts. His brother Paul converted to leave the final score 10-32.

Tomorrow, ko 2.15pm, Cooper Avon play Westbury.

A hat-trick of tries from prop Dave Aylesbury and two conversions from Rich Foley continued the seconds winning sequence.

The third 15 travelled to Warminster and lost 47-6.

A powerful and committed performance from the Minety pack paved the way for a comprehensive win over the Avon second string at the Nigel Bishop Memorial Ground.

With the advantage of the slope, the Avon team were the first to score, landing a penalty goal to gain an early but temporary three-point lead.

Minety gradually pegged their rivals back up the hill before Sean Richards scored their opening try.

Simon Barrett touched down under the posts for the second and James Tweedale added the conversion before converting his own try to make it 19-3 at the interval.In the second half, winger Luke Huckin scored in the corner before Huckin got the final try which Tweedale converted.
