RUGBY
Tetley Bitter Vase
Westbury 1st XV 30,
North Dorset 1st XV 7
Westbury continued their recent good run with their seventh successive win, beating North Dorset to progress to the forth round of the Tetley Bitter vase.
They started strongly and pressurised their opponents into early mistakes, which resulted in an early try for Mark Butcher, following a kick through by Joe Newman.
North Dorset soon hit back and scored a try following a handling error by Westbury. This was converted to give them the lead.
Soon after, Rich Coleman hit a penalty following good forward play. Westbury continued to press their opponent's line, and following a powerful scrum, flyhalf Coleman dissected the defence to score under the post, and followed up by converting the extra points, to leave the score at half-time 15-7.
The second half started as the first had finished, with Westbury forwards pummelling the opponents into submission, giving their back space to work in.
Following a great break by centre Alec Balchin, winger Steve Webster was able to squeeze in at the corner for Westbury's third try.
This was soon followed by a further penalty for Coleman, and an excellent individual try for hooker Doug Balchin who side-stepped two players to score near the posts.
This was again converted by Coleman to leave the final score 30-7.
