A new Millennium may have arrived, but still the world remains wracked by conflict and division.
That is why we must never take peace for granted and why a new generation brought up without the experience of war must be made aware of the deep sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom.
The former comrades who marched in and around Swindon at the weekend deserve our utmost respect.
And Remembrance Day should always remain the most important date on our nation's calendar.
