Swindon is under the spotlight in the TV Licensing's Target Zero campaign this month.

All unlicensed addresses will be targeting in the drive towards eliminating licence evasion in Britain.

This month inquiry officers will visit people in the borough who use a television without a valid licence. These evaders have already have received letters warning them to buy a licence.

Steve Taylor, TV Licensing manager for the region, said: "We caught more than 1,100 evaders in Swindon between October 1999 and September 2000.

"We would advise all the others to make sure they have a valid licence before they receive a knock on the door during this month.''

Where licence evasion is suspected, state-of-the-art detection equipment enables inquiry officers to discover in seconds whether a television is being used.

Mr Taylor said: "Licence evasion is a foolish risk to take. Evaders will have to pay a visit to the magistrates court and get a hefty fine."
