Demolitian work is set to begin today on a two-storey block of flats and shops in Cavendish Square, to make way for a new car park.
Owned by Swindon Borough Council, the building had leakage problems and could no longer be used.
The area will be fenced off this morning and workmen will start stripping out the interior in time for a controlled demolition of the building on Friday, December 15.
Work will begin on creating a car park on January 8.
Tenants have been re-housed and the remaining two shops, a chemists and a greengrocers, have moved elsewhere within Cavendish Square.
