Bad weather conditions have meant a planned repair project on parts of Barbury Castle being cancelled.
Strong winds and rain put people off turning up for the event on Saturday, which was to involve volunteers carrying wheelbarrows full of chalk to fill in the holes which have been caused through erosion at the castle.
But no volunteers turned up, and even if they had they would have been turned away because the weather conditions made the planned work too dangerous.
Ranger Michael Lilley, who was involved in organising the project, said: "The weather was fairly miserable first thing on Saturday, so I don't blame people for not turning up.
"But weather conditions were not suitable anyway, bearing in mind that people would have been steering wheelbarrows in the strong winds."
The erosion is being caused by animals grazing on the land around the castle and by visitors. The event will be reorganised for either February or March.
