STFC Ladies 3, Southampton 0: Swindon Town Ladies beat Southampton 3-0 an AXA Womens FA Cup second round tie played at Ballards Ash, Wootton Bassett.
The Town kicked off on a perfect afternoon and immediately put the Southampton defence under pressure.
The first real chance of the game fell to Southampton. Clare Butler split the home defence with a through ball to Jo Angel and only a brave diving save at the feet of the inrushing forward by Town keeper Jessica Wier preventing her from scoring.
Kim Reeves fed a neat ball forward into the path of Holly Ashman who forced Southampton keeper Helen Perriam to push the ball out for a corner.
In the 6th minute the Town took the lead. Tracy Peacock knocked a long ball out wide to Holly Ashman on the Town right and the midfielder ran on to hit the ball beyond the diving keeper.
The Town were having the better of the play but were unable to find a way through the tight Southampton defence.
Tracy Peacock worked her way in from the right before laying the ball off to Holly Ashman whose shot was headed round for a corner by Sarah Keen.
Leanne Taylor and Holly Ashman combined well down the Town right but the final cross was headed clear by Clare Butler. Jo Angel broke free on the Southampton right but Netti Wyness' well timed tackle cleared the danger.
The Town started the second half well and visiting keeper Helen Perriam was soon in action saving from Leanne Taylor.
The Town increased their lead in the 51st minute. Diane George hit a long free kick over the Southampton defence and Georgia Alcock nipped in the score from close range.
Southampton hit back but keeper Jessica Wier dealt comfortably with Jo Angela's rising shot.
Georgia Alcock won possession for the Town in midfield and slid the ball forward to Tracy Peacock who hit it on for Lucy Bailey to run clear but her shot was the wrong side of the far post.
Central defender Netti Wyness played a neat one two with Georgia Alcock to run clear but the final shot was just off the mark.
Much of the play was confined to the midfield with few openings created at either end. Laura Watson made a promising run down the Southampton left but was halted by Clare Wheeler and Katey Lemon cut in from the Town left after a tricky run but the centre was cut out by keeper Helen Perriam.
In the 81st minute the Town got a third to put the tie beyond doubt. A long kick out by Town keeper Jessica Wier was knocked onwards by Pam Laker to Lucy Bailey, who outpaced the Southampton back line to smash the ball in to the back of the net.
A solid performance from the Town with some good defending and creating good goal scoring opportunities ensured that they go into the draw for round three.
