More than 40 disabled people, friends and carers took part in a day of sport at Swindon's Oasis Leisure Centre.

In its second sporting chance day, Swindon Borough Council's lifestyle development team laid on a variety of sporting activities ranging from football, tennis and indoor athletics to a form of curling which is not played on ice.

One of those who helped organise the event, lifestyle manager Fran Pound, said: "The day went really well. During the morning session we had about 18 children attend and the numbers were about the same for the adults in the afternoon.

"We were expecting a few more, but it did mean that we were able to give those people taking part more individual attention."

In order to further promote sport for youngsters who have disabilities, a regular Saturday sports club is being launched by Swindon Borough Council.

The first meeting of the new club will be on January 13 at the Link Centre at 10.30am.
