The former Keeper of the Modern Collection at London's Tate Gallery, will be giving an illustrated talk in Swindon tonight.
Richard Morphet, advisor to the Swindon Art Gallery since 1966, is giving a free lecture called Encounters New Art from Old, based on a recent exhibition at the National Gallery.
The world's 24 leading contemporary artists were invited to create an entirely new work in response to a painting by 24 great artists of the past. Mr Morphet will be discussing the results.
The current GULP series is held at the Upper Room, 38/40 Regent Street, Swindon (above the Savoy pub). Lectures are all free and start at 5.30 pm.
This is the third event in the General University Lecture Programme (GULP), which has been launched by the University of Bath in Swindon. The final event, on November 22, will be led by Prof Graham Henshaw.
