THE number of emergency calls to Wiltshire Fire Brigade has fallen, according to the latest figures.

During August and September crews were called out 1,553 times 157 fewer than during the same period last year.

The snapshot review of incidents takes in the period prior to the October and November floods this year.

In the period under review, the county fire authority will be told, there were 382 special service calls last year compared with 305 this time.

The 1999 total includes nearly 120 flood calls but only about 30 in August and September this year.

There were eight more fires this year but 100 fewer false alarms.
