TWELVE of Wiltshire's young carers are making movies as they take a break from their responsibilities at home.

The Mobile Media Club, based in Swindon, is holding weekly workshops at Chippenham Rotary Hall.

The lottery-funded club gives Wiltshire youngsters the chance to use cutting edge digital media production equipment to make animated films which they then edit and add music to. Each member of the group will take home a video of the finished movie.

Wiltshire has an estimated 900 young carers aged between six and 25 who have the responsibility of caring for sick or disabled family members.

On top of the pressures of school or work that other young people have to deal with, young carers have to contend with caring for those with mental illness, cancer or chronic conditions like MS.

The workshops allows them to meet other carers and have a much-needed break from their responsibilities at home

Youth Action Wiltshire, North Wiltshire District Council and Carers Support North Wiltshire are developing North Wiltshire Young Carers Group, to continue to give the young carers a chance to meet fortnightly from January, and they are looking for volunteers to help.

Anyone who can help is asked to call Alison Perry, co-ordinator of Wiltshire Young Carers on (01380) 720671.
