A ROSTER of performing talent gathered to salute the memory of the woman who taught them many of their musical skills.

And the money raised will go to a musical charity in Purton.

Ada Fisher, who died in March at the age of 84, was involved at various times with several local stage groups.

These included Swindon Opera, Swindon Choral Society, Shrivenham's RMCS Choral Society and Swindon Orpheus Choir.

She was also much in demand as an accompanist to these and other groups, and taught piano to hundreds of pupils in Swindon over the years. Her memorial concert was held at Christ Church in Old Town on Saturday.

Performers from various musical disciplines included organist Keith Jarvis, singers Sheila Harrod and Roy Rashbrook, pianists Sarah Higgins and Sarah Summers and Swindon Chamber Ensemble.

One of the organisers, Albert Rashbrook, said: "It went exceedingly well. It was a worthy tribute to a fine teacher."

The £470 proceeds of the evening will go to Purton's Music for Living charity, which uses music to assist people with learning difficulties.
