A MAN was arrested in Sherston early on Wednesday November 15 on charges of possessing a firearm with the intent to endanger life.
Police said about 40 officers, including a team of specialist negotiators, were sent to the village after a telephone call was received from a farmhouse in connection with an alleged domestic dispute.
The call came through at about 2.42am and mention was made of a firearm.
Police sealed off the village at the Sopworth Cross Roads, near Green Lane, and a 36-year-old man was arrested at 7.46am.
A police spokesman, who refused to reveal the exact location of the incident, said: "There were fears that the man could harm himself or other people."
It is believed the incident centred on a cottage at Manor Farm Stables.
The man was taken to Chippenham Police Station for interview. Police could not say yesterday when the man would appear in court.
