TOWN councillors are to draw the district council's attention to their concern that parts of Marlborough could flood if it is hit by the abnormal rainfall that fell on other parts of Britain recently.
Mayor Maurice Cooper said he could recall as a boy the River Kennet overflowing in Kennet Place and running through The Parade and into London Road where it flowed back into the river again.
Coun Bryan Castle, a retired meteorological officer, raised the flooding fears when the town council planning committee discussed revised plans for the Ragland Housing Association scheme to build flats on part of the former tannery site in Angel Yard.
He said he wanted the town council to draw the district council's attention to concern that parts of the town could flood again in severe weather.
But Coun Cooper said he could not remember floods ever reaching the site.
Planning vice-chairman, Coun Bill Cavill, and Coun David Watson who are both Kennet members said they would raise the subject at the next local plans meeting on January 20.
Councillors raised no objection to the modification of the Raglan plans.
