PEWSEY'S first farmers' market will open tomorrow in the Bouverie Hall.

The market is being organised by Burbage small holder Nick Venters, with the backing of Wiltshire Farmers' Markets which stage events in a number of towns.

Mr Venters and his wife Helena breed rare sheep and pigs and produce hand-knitted woollen garments.

"Pewsey was one of the few places that does not have a farmers' market so I decided to give it a try," he said.

"This could be a one-off but if it goes well and we get good support from Pewsey and the villages around then there could be more."

Mr Venters will be selling pork sausages and garments made with the wool from the rare breed sheep he and his wife keep at their East Sands small holding.

Other producers who have been invited to attend will be selling farmhouse cheeses, meat pies and pasties, organic trout, vegetables, honey, eggs, chutneys and jams, apple juices and Fonthill Manor wines.

The market will run from 9am to 1pm.
