CHILDREN from Queens Crescent School took a morning out from lessons to watch Chippenham's giant Christmas tree being decked with decorations they had made.

The 48 youngsters from the Reception year applauded when town council staff placed the first decoration on the tree.

The icicles, Christmas boxes and snowflakes were made by the Reception children, helped by parents, grandparents and teachers, during a Christmas decoration making day at the school.

They recycled plastic bottles and yoghurt pots, and laminated paper snowflakes to make them waterproof.

"It was a real family affair," said headteacher Gill Clark. "The children thought the tree decorating was wonderful."

The tree in the Market Place was decked out on Tuesday in readiness for the Christmas lights switch-on on Friday at 6.30pm. Chippenham Town Council invites a different primary school to take part each year.
