FOOTBALL: Salisbury City 2 Havant & Waterlooville 2 (aet - Havant win 3-2 on pens)

Those intrepid souls who braved a cold November night at Old Sarum could be forgiven for thinking they were attending a theatrical farce rather than a football match.

Havant took the lead after 35 minutes courtesy of a Matt Jones header which was cancelled out on the stroke of half-time when the prodigal Sean Sanders set up Jimmy Smith's close range shot.

Two minutes after half-time a clever turn gave Sanders the space to rifle in a quality goal from the edge of the box.

With Whites in the driving seat, the referee found six minutes of injury time which proved just enough for Dean Blake to conjure up a goal that sent an uninspiring game into extra time.

The farce continued into the penalty shoot-out when first Ben Price's spot kick sailed over the bar and Andy Cook's effort was saved by Paul Nicholls.

Neil Champion converted his kick before Tyronne Bowers levelled. Lee Anstey restored Havant's advantage which was reinforced when Phil Corcoran's penalty was saved.

Justin Shuttlewood saved from Dean Blake and when Jimmy Smith coolly converted, Whites were back on level terms with one penalty each remaining.

Liam Daish made no mistake, but City's Martin Shepherd failed to beat the 'keeper and the curtains finally came down on a night that will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
