DEVIZES' male majorettes, the Major Wrecks, are preparing themselves for TV stardom in the BBC's Children in Need telethon tomorrow.
The Wrecks are expected to feature on the programme between 8.30pm and 9pm, as part of the seven-hour programme being broadcast from the recently opened At Bristol multi-media centre.
The popular troupe will be in good company. Explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, TV star Kate O'Mara, and naturalist Charlotte Uhlenbrook are joining BBC Points West presenters Susan Osman, Chris Vacher, David Garmston, Sally Challoner and O J Lynch on the show.
The Wrecks' parent charity Devizes Contact a Family recently received £500 from Children in Need to help with swimming tuition fees, and a BBC crew came along to film the disabled children in the pool.
Nick Glenister, chairman of Contact a Family, said: "The producer asked if we did any fundraising ourselves, so I told her how the Wrecks had been raising money for the past 11 years. She asked to see a video of one of our performances and was knocked out."
The Wrecks were due to appear on the Barrymore Show several years ago but the footage was not broadcast.
