Polish farmers on an organic farming fact finding mission have visited Lower Shaw Farm in Swindon as part of their country-wide tour.

The four-strong female team are part of a fledgling organic movement in their country and are learning about organic and alternative uses for farms.

The owner of Lower Shaw Farm, Matt Holland, explained: "The visitors are looking at different ways of using farms, not just the large dairy herds they have in Poland, but for things like eco-tourism, small scale organic farming and that sort of thing.

"In our case, they are interested because we farm people. We have a few animals here for show, but essentially the farm is used as a venue for all sorts of courses and educational activities."

Their five-day tour includes a visit Prince Charle's organic farm at Highgrove, the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales and various other organic farms.

One of the visitors, Ewa Smuk Sprapenwerph said: "We are impressed with what we have seen. In Poland, we have had a dramatic history and many of our traditional ways of working have been lost so we have to try to regain them.

"Poland is ripe for organic farming and we are persuading our government to invest more into it."
