I WRITE with reference to the letter from Calne's Councillor Quinn "Have say on worries over nuclear power" in last week's Gazette.
Although the problem is a major one, surely the role of a town councillor is to concentrate on problems that exist within the town of Calne itself?
Despite efforts to change it, is still the poor relation in North Wiltshire.
You only have to look at Chippenham, Devizes and Marlborough for evidence of how effective representation and actions ensure the towns are ones of which its population can be proud.
Calne has a long way to go and hopefully, if ever it stops looking like a building site, its population will be proud of it.
However, the problems here are much deeper. What about providing proper facilities in Calne for the younger people, a purpose built cinema perhaps?
At least this would offer an alternative to the drink and drugs so many here turn to.
Or why not concentrate on encouraging a return to healthy moral values aimed at strengthening the family and community in a town that suffers from much deprivation?
Coun Quinn ought to spend more time concentrating on the problems of now, than those that might be.
