THE recently published book Westbury and Westbury Leigh compiled by the Westbury Book Group is a most interesting, well produced and documented account of Westbury today and yesterday. The newcomer to Westbury can however be forgiven for concluding that there are no youth organisations in Westbury, apart from the Girl Guides. No mention here that Westbury received one of the first purpose-built youth centres in the county. No mention either of the sailing centre .
I searched the book in the hope that I would find some reference to the many youth groups like the boxing section run by the late Gerry Rafferty, or the karate club managed by the late Paul Yates. The one person who helped make all these developments possible receives a two-line mention. I refer of course to Mrs PF Cundick MBE.
Sorry Book Group, but you have sold our youth groups and young people short.
