SKURRAY'S WILTSHIRE LEAGUE
ONCE again the Wiltshire League programme was badly affected by the weather, with just a half a dozen matches getting the go-ahead.
In the Premier Division just one game survived, leaders Devizes Town Reserves pulling six points clear at the top of the table after defeating Aldbourne 4-0 on their own ground.
Mark Strickland opened the scoring for the visitors following a free kick, Dave Hopkins adding a second with a neat left footer.
After the break Devizes continued on top and added a third, Timmy Wootton pulling a good ball back from the byline for Strickland to score his second.
Wootton completed the scoring with a good header from a well taken corner.
Burmah Castrol defied the conditions to beat Down Ampney 7-1 in the Intermediate Division. Andy Lydiard started the goal spree with a left footer into the top corner of the net, Brendan Graham chipping the Ampney keeper for a second.
The visitors pulled a goal back, but back came Burmah to add a third just before the break.
Soon after the start of the second half a cross from Andy Lydiard was turned into the net by an Ampney defender and Brendan Graham added a fifth.
Gary Donnolly curled a good effort into the top corner for a sixth and Nick Camden completed the scoring following a rebound after Tom Mawson had hit the bar.
A last minute goal by Wayne Clarke enabled Stratton Crossland Reserves to beat Dunbar Westside 3-2. Earlier Dunbar had taken a first half lead with a strike from Geoff Swatton and two headers from Wayne Clarke and Terry Larby gave Crosslink the lead.
Swatton struck again for Dunbar to level the scores and with both sides looking to share the points Clarke popped up to head in a corner for the winning goal.
In Junior Division Two Bromham turned in a good team performance to beat Blunsdon United Res by 5-1.
After a fairly even first 20 minutes Tom Pagget ran through the Blunsdon defence to score a good individual goal and Jason Prades added a second before the break following good work by Kieran McCloughlan.
Ten minutes into the second half Prades added a third, then a lack of concentration in the Bromham defence allowed Wayne Watts to pull a goal back for United.
Bromham continued to look much the better side and added two more goals from Tom Paget to chalk up a hat-trick for the Bromham defender.
Wootton Bassett United started well against Down Ampney Reserve, storming into a three goal lead with strikes from Chris Cooper (2) and Brett Reynolds.
Bassett then received a double blow when Cooper was sent off and Paul Furlong pulled a goal back for Down Ampney.
Despite playing with 10 men Bassett still looked dangerous and Ampney keeper Alex Heath kept his side in the game with some good saves before Alan Coole added a second for Ampney to ensure a hectic last ten minutes for United.
In the only other game played Marshfield defeated their Swindon visitors Dunbar Westside Reserves by 6-1. Gary Hodder netting a hattrick, Richard Lock (2) and Gary Pearce with Craig Roberts replying for Dunbar.
