TROWBRIDGE LEAGUE

ONLY one tie in round two of the KO Cup (sponsored by Reflections Niteclub Westbury) took place at the weekend. Last week's postponements in the Wiltshire Junior Cup meant a rescheduling of fixtures.

Frome Sportshouse made it into the next round with a 8-2 win against Avon Bradford Reserves.

Frome took a 3-1 lead in the first half with goals from Gary Sinkins, Mark Taylor and Damien Mead, Neil Hanniford replying for the visitors. The atrocious conditions set the pace for goals from Mead (2), Stewart Bryant, Simon Keates and Jason Collier. Avon's second goal came from a Sporthouse own goal.

One game survived in Division One of Trowbridge League (sponsored by Just Signs Trowbridge) thanks to the hard work of Avon Bradford ground staff. Avon led visitors Heytesbury three times with goals coming from Adie Evans (2) and Charlie Powell. The visitors battled back to earn a point with strikes from Derek Taylor (1-1), Derek Cundick (2-2) and Chris Elloway (3-3).

In Division Two Lavington and Easterton won for the first time against fellow strugglers Bradford United Reserves. Lavington won by the odd goal in seven to move above United in the table. Lee Clark, Steve Foord (2) and Mike Jenks got the goals for Lavington.

Dave Mason put Dursley Arms 1-0 up at Freshford United. The home side squandered many chances before equalising through Ryan Mortimer early in the second half. United were undone by ex-player Robin Walker who scored twice to seal a 3-1 win.

Division Three leaders Rudloe dominated their game with Deverills Reserves, but could not find a way past Mark Bowen in the visitors goal. Bowen excelled throughout and saved Jason Walsh's penalty in the second half. Deverills defended well and caught Rudloe with two breakaway goals from Chris Fellows (20 minutes) and Mark Davis (45 minutes).

Foresters Arms took advantage of Rudloe's first defeat to close the gap on the leaders. Arms raced to a 6-0 interval lead against Hilperton United Reserves. Two goals after the break secured an 8-0 victory. Arms goals were shared between Dave Birch (2), Steve Collett (2), Simeon Mills (2), Shane Thornton and Nathan Mantle.

In the Wiltshire Junior Cup the ties between Broughton Gifford and Setyres and Bratton and Calne Town Sc again failed to beat the weather. Three ties were completed at Bradford United, Bulldog Rangers and Deverills.

Bradford United squandered chances against Spectrum and paid the penalty when Darren Doole put the visitors ahead on 48 minutes. A hat-trick from Damien Fricker, all with his left foot, saved United from an early exit. Simon Harvey used his head to complete a 4-1 victory.

Deverills entertained fellow league members Steeple Ashton. Deverills progressed with a 4-1 win. Brett Ball (2), Rowan King and Darren Munro got the goals for the home side.

Hilperton United had Steve Appleyard's goal as their only reward from a trip to Bulldog Rangers who won 4-1.
