REGARDING the proposed bye-law preventing drinking on the streets and in the parks of Trowbridge (Wiltshire Times, November 10).

We already have laws prohibiting the following: Dog fouling, riding bicycles on pavements, driving without lights during the hours of darkness, parking cars on pavements and yellow lines, allowing your hedges to become overgrown.

Rarely do any of these laws get implemented by the council or the police. We are told they are not cost-effective.

What is the point of yet another law which will probably only be used when a family are having a picnic in the park and dad is having a can of beer with his sandwich?
