Here we go again. Once more this council is putting the pensioners and disabled of the borough through all the uncertainty and unwanted new ways of using the travel concession tokens.

We cannot now use our tokens on the train.

Why change a system that has worked well and seems to suit all those who qualify for the concession?

I know. There won't be an election for another 18 months.

Are they hoping that by the next election the pensioners and disabled will have lost their memories? I can assure them that we won't.

What does it matter how the tokens are used whether it's on the bus, on a taxi (for wheelchair disabled only) or by rail?

The relevant department must know how many people qualify for the concession. Each person gets £45 per year whatever form of transport they use the tokens on.

This council has at least twice before tried to change the system and each time has had to back down due to public opinion and Frank Avenell's efforts. But of course, these were very near an election each time. I thought that having lost so many seats last time the Labour group would take notice. How silly of me.

And what about the Conservatives and the Liberals? They shouted long and hard before but seem strangely quiet on this occasion.

As the Conservatives have so many seats surely they could sway the vote, or does it not now seem politic to do so? Answers please from all three groups. I am, by the way, an ex Conservative councillor.

Both my husband and I qualify for tokens because we are disabled. Neither of us can use buses, we can't use a taxi with our tokens because we are not wheelchair bound but, under the old system, we could have the occasional day trip out on the trains.

We won't be able to do this in the future.

Does this strike some of you as discrimination against the disabled? It should.

Instead of spending thousands of pounds of taxpayers' money on stupid surveys by expensive firms, spend a little of it on asking each and every qualifier what they think.

That would be the fairest way.
