EVEN Swindon Junior School is toasting technology with the official opening of its new ICT computer suite.
Youngsters have access to 17 new computers in a specially-equipped room at the school.
Headteacher Keith Cozens is delighted that his pupils now have greater access to the internet, thanks to a partnership with the North Star campus of Swindon College.
The school was given 17 computers from the college, several of which were destined for the scrap heap.
The project was also supported by the Friends of Even Swindon Junior School.
Mr Cozens said: "This is a fairly modern building and we are lucky enough to have a room which will house the new equipment."
The head said that all schools would eventually receive a Government grant to boost ICT provision and he hoped that when Even Swindon actually received its share of the money, it could be used to boost an already impressive set-up.
"We are pleased to have a network system, with each computer linked to the internet.
"Our target was to provide one computer for every ten pupils and we have achieved that.
"The new computers will allow us to teach specific ICT skills.
"For example, a whole class can be shown ways of handling data, such as creating spreadsheets," he said. To celebrate their new equipment, pupils drew pictures and typed out a report of the occasion, attended by representatives of the college, who received a big thank you.
