A TEMPORARY recycling centre is being set up next to the household waste recycling centre at Barnfield Road while improvements are made to the existing site.
From Monday people with household waste which is not suitable for normal refuse collection will be able to take it the temporary site.
When the site was transferred from Wiltshire County Council to Swindon Borough Council it was recognised that improvements would need to be made and these are now starting.
Assistant chief officer Geoff Lewis, said: "We have arranged with the Environment Agency that a temporary recycling facility be provided next to the present site. While we are making every effort to retain the recycling facilities, the reduced space available means that we are unable to allow pedestrian access to the temporary site.
"Offloading of the waste will be done via a raised platform, so residents with disabilities will be offered assistance by staff on site.
"I would urge residents who are able to be flexible about when they visit the site to avoid weekends and after 3pm during weekdays."
