TOWN boss Andy King is adamant there will be no FA Cup complacency on the part of his players today (Saturday, November 18).
Ilkeston Town may play their football three divisions below Town, but King is under no illusions about the tough challenge John McGovern's side will present.
The manager travelled to Banbury in midweek to watch Ilkeston in action.
"If my players show the same commitment and passion as Ilkeston, then we should win the game," he said. "Our extra quality should come through. But, if we don't compete as we should, then we could get punished," said the Town boss.
Although Ilkeston may not enjoy league status, the Town boss has no doubt they will be eager to create a cup shock.
"Ilkeston will be nobody's fools. They have progressed through the leagues and are doing well in the Dr Martens League," said the Town boss.
Despite a 4-0 thrashing at Peterborough last Saturday, which leaves Town in the bottom three, King is not a manager who sees the FA Cup as an unwanted distraction.
"This is a one-off game, and, of course, we want to win. There are always shocks in the first round of the cup and we will be doing everything to make sure it isn't here," said the Town chief.
King knows all about giant-killing as a manager. In 1994 he was the Mansfield boss whose team defeated Premiership side Leeds United over two legs in the League Cup.
Off the field, the game brings together two managers who enjoyed success at the very highest level.
While John McGovern was captaining Nottingham Forest to European glory, King was starring for Everton.
"That is all in the past. I played against John. He played the game with spirit and passion and I would expect his team to show the same. This will be their cup final and I will not be treating them lightly," he said.
After the Peterborough horror show, King revealed two 'shopping lists' of players were being drawn up but the Town fans would not see any new faces in the team tomorrow.
In the seven days before a cup tie clubs are forbidden from signing and subsequently playing new acquisitions.
The manager has so far been unable to bring new players into the club, despite several approaches.
