TOWN'S pairing with non-league Gateshead in the FA Cup second round sent a shiver down Andy King's spine.

However, this had little to do with fears of a cup exit - rather memories of the Unibond League team's ground and the chilly climate in the North East.

With tongue very firmly in cheek he recalled a scouting mission for Sunderland boss Peter Reid.

"I went to watch a player for Woking. It was cold and windy. I'm glad the tie's here." he said.

On serious note, the Town boss said he was pleased with the draw.

"It is a very, very good draw for us again, one you are expected to win. But they beat a league side in Halifax," he said.

n Ian Woan seems destined to commit his future to Swindon Town.

The midfielder is currently on a month-to-month deal with the club but the player and his manager have made no secret of their desire to make the deal permanent.

Following Saturday's win over Ilkeston, King said: "Ian Woan has made a statement by playing in the cup. He's cup-tied himself in England so I think that tells you something."

"The only thing now is to sit down and finalise it. From his age I don't think it will be a 10 year contract but I hope will be able to tie it up by the end of next month."

King also confirmed his interest in Southampton's out-of-favour defender Richard Dryden.

The player is believed to have expressed his desire for a loan move to the County Ground, his first team opportunities having been limited at The Dell this season.

King said: "I would hope to get one more player in before the week's out. I won't be bringing people in for the sake of it. It will only be people I believe will improve the side."
