Health staff are to be presented with a national award tomorrow for the way they organise and collect their patient records.

The Child Health Department of Wiltshire and Swindon Health Care Trust has been singled out for a distinction the first trust to achieve such a high standard.

It holds and keeps track of the health records of up to 80,000 children at any one time at its offices in Chatsworth House in Bath Road, Old Town, Swindon.

Representatives from the Child Health Information Consortium were so impressed by the data collection system when they visited the department they decided to award the accreditation.

Brenda Savill, the trust's primary care manager, said: "When you are responsible for maintaining and tracking the health records of some 80,000 children, some of whom have very special health needs, information systems have to be spot on."
