Widcombe is just a short walk across the bridge from Bath Spa Railway station.
The street is full of shops packed with bargains. Away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city centre, you can rummage without pressure in shops such as The Roundabout opposite the church.
The Roundabout is a shop selling good quality, secondhand children's clothes, baby equipment and toys at prices which are a fraction of what they would cost brand new.
If it is just a relaxing drink you're after, then pop into the The Rising Sun pub for your favourite beverage.
You can take a gentle stroll down by the river Avon and watch the boats passing, as they have for centuries.
Widcombe Locks carry the Kennet and Avon canal from the river Avon up a rise of 65 feet out of the city.
Mysteriously, one of the locks is 'missing', but this is because two locks were combined as part of a road improvement scheme in the 1970s. The resulting Bath Deep Lock, with its rise, or fall, of 19 ft five inches, is the deepest canal lock in Britain.
The Widcombe locks are some of the most attractive canal locks in the country.
The church at Widcombe, renowned for its bold writing on the roof, offers refuge to those who wish to meditate on the religious aspects of the festive season, to pray or just sit quietly and think about the traditional Christmas story.
The newsagent, JCR is just the place to keep you up-to-date with the latest news stories, and the latest in bargains before embarking on the next shopping spree.
So while in Bath, pay Widcombe a visit and you really will be surprised at what you can find.
