Flooded rivers and lakes with banks under several inches of water have curtailed fishing for many anglers.

Yet, despite the conditions, some anglers did go out, some good fish were caught and Salisbury Angling Club did quite well in the latest round of the Winter League.

Last week started off with a bang, especially for Luke Brignall, who fished Salisbury club's stretch of the Nadder near

Elizabeth Gardens and from one of the few slack stretches caught a 3lb 3oz roach - one of the best reported this year.

He also took three chub around the 3lb mark.

In Sunday's Winter League match on the Kennet and Avon Canal, Salisbury came in fourth out of the ten teams, with section wins for Johnny Gray, Richard Trim and Ray Ridger.

Pewsey won the match.

Witherington Farm, which was under flood water for most of last week, was just fishable at the weekend, although the third in the series of Teams of Four matches, was cut back to one lake.

It was won by Christchurch's Terry Hiscock with 29lb with Salisbury's Lee Goodfellow taking 27lb 12oz.

On Sunday Witherington's open match was won by Ian

Goodfellow with 20lb 12oz, David Tessier was second with 17lb 6oz and Mark Blake came in third with 15lb 14oz.

Salisbury club's Petersfinger Lakes have been flooded, but parts that still have bank access have given good sport with decent roach.

At Waldens Farm Fishery all the lakes are brim full but there has been no flooding. However, all but Bishops Lake suffered from heavy coloured water making fishing difficult. Bishops

Lake yielded bream to 2lb and carp to 6lb with bags of small roach and perch and the odd carp was taken from Abbots Lake and Monks Lake.
